Deaf Australia – a new era

Media Release - 16th January 2008
Deaf Australia has changed its name. It will now be known as Deaf Australia Incorporated.

Members voted for the new name at the Annual General Meeting held in Melbourne on 16th November 2007, but the change had to first be approved by the South Australian Corporate Affairs Commission before the new name could be used.  This approval has now come through.

"This is an exciting change for the Australian Deaf community. It will help make us more visible with a name that clearly and boldly says who we are, and is a move forward to a better future for Deaf Australians," Deaf Australia President Kyle Miers said.

"2008 is shaping up to be a big year for Deaf Australia, with several new projects coming up. The first of these is The Auslan Shop, announced recently, which is expected to begin trading soon," Miers said.

The new name will appear on stationery and the website in due course.
