National Auslan Interpreter Register
The Deaf Australia National Auslan Interpreter Register provides information about Auslan/English interpreters working in Australia. Information includes where they are based, their NAATI accreditation level, areas of special interest, and whether or not they are a member of the Australian Sign Language Interpreters Association (ASLIA).The purpose of the register is to provide information to consumers about which interpreters are available in your area. You can use this register to help you when requesting interpreters from interpreter agencies. The majority of interpreters are registered with one or more interpreting agency and many are available on a freelance basis to work with many different agencies. The register is for your information only. Entry in the register is voluntary – interpreters are listed because they have chosen to be listed. Deaf Australia has not assessed and approved interpreters. It is still up to you to check an interpreter’s suitability for your needs. Information about an interpreter’s NAATI accreditation level helps assess whether their qualifications and skills are likely to be suitable to your particular need. Most interpreters work across a broad range of subject areas. Information about their areas of special interest indicates that they may have experience working in these specialist areas. ASLIA membership indicates that an interpreter has a commitment to their own ongoing professional development. Deaf Australia has a policy that all interpreters should be members of ASLIA. Information about each interpreter in this register has been supplied to Deaf Australia by the interpreter, and each interpreter is responsible to inform Deaf Australia of any changes to their information. Deaf Australia takes no responsibility for the accuracy or currency of information about individual interpreters. Interpreters can use the data collection form to update their information or provide new information. |
